Locality

Retreat au Chateau is set in a bewitchingly beautiful area of south west France. The wide Atlantic sandy beaches are an hour away as are the most popular ski resorts of the Pyrenees. Lourdes, Pau and Tarbes are about half an hour drive away creating for you a wonderful base from which to explore. Come and relax in the rural calm with green hills, sleepy villages, deep forests as well as enjoy the bustle of busy local market towns, cafes, bars and restaurants which are situated all close by.

The PYRENEES - The scenery of the Pyrenean mountain range is absolutely breathtaking and there are over 1,000 miles of marked walking trails and hikes for you to discover. Pic-du-Midi (which can be seen from the house and gardens) is accessible on foot or via a cable car from La Mongie, where the incredible astrological observatory is located.

PAU – Pau is an extremely elegant city and can only be described as a 'mini Paris.' It has been a favourite resort of the affluent English since the early 19th Century and was the birthplace of King Henry IV. The Boulevard de Pyrenees provides beautiful views over the Pyrenees and provides glimpses of the highest peaks, which are snow capped throughout the year.

LOURDES – In twenty five minutes you will arrive at Lourdes, and regardless of your beliefs, this is one place you should really visit for the sheer experience and calmness of the sanctuary.

Our local towns

MONTANER is a short distance away and has an amazing chateau with medieval festivities, opera and musical soirees throughout the summer season.

VIC-EN-BIGORRE is our nearest and a local typically French busy market town. It has numerous shops, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants as well as a bustling Saturday market.

MARCIAC boasts a fantastic jazz festival during the summer months and draws in international big names from the jazz scene.
